Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Suu Myat Than Education Foundation Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Myanmar Background

Applicants must hold Myanmar citizenship or provide documentation confirming prior residency in Myanmar before the current crisis.

Accredited Enrollment

Must be enrolled or have an unconditional offer for full-time study at an accredited higher education institution in Asia.

Financial Need

Must demonstrate significant and verifiable financial need to complete their education due to hardship resulting from conflict or displacement.

Academic Commitment

Must show a clear commitment to completing the educational program and provide documentation confirming satisfactory academic standing.

Our Selection Process

Prescreening

Evaluation based on criteria. Scores 60+ out of 100 will be invited to a virtual interview.

Interview

Shortlisted candidates interviewed with additional scores up to 100 points.

Awarding

Scholarships granted to applicants with the highest total scores across both rounds.

Scholarship Disbursement Schedule

Each recipient will receive a total award of $1,200, divided into two equal installments of $600 to provide consistent support throughout the academic year.

  • First Installment: The first installment ($600) is scheduled for July.
  • Second Installment: The second installment ($600) is scheduled for November.

We will work with you individually to determine your preferred payment method (e.g., bank transfer, PayPal) and finalize all necessary details before the first payment is made.

Important Notes for Recipients

  • One-Time Award: This scholarship is a one-time award and is not automatically renewable.
  • Continued Enrollment: Payments are contingent on continued enrollment in your program.
  • Tax Responsibility: Payments may be subject to tax reporting requirements based on your jurisdiction.
  • Confirmation of Receipt: Recipients must confirm receipt of all payments once received.
  • Keep Contact Info Current: It is essential to keep your contact information updated for important notifications.
  • Simplified Documentation: We accept digital or scanned signatures on receipts and required forms.

Protecting Applicant Privacy

We value your trust and are committed to upholding the highest data privacy standards throughout the scholarship process.

  • Confidentiality Statements: All committee members sign confidentiality statements before accessing applications.
  • Data Storage: Applicant data is securely stored on a private, access-controlled platform.
  • Application Retention Policy: We retain applicant data for three years following selection, after which it is permanently deleted.
  • Guidance on Sensitive Data: Avoid providing sensitive personal information (e.g., government IDs, bank details) unless explicitly requested.
  • Transparency: We respect applicants' rights to privacy and are transparent about how data is handled.
