The Inception of Our Foundation

The Suu Myat Than Education Foundation was established in loving memory of our beloved daughter, Suu Myat Than, whose life was tragically cut short at the age of 20. Through this foundation, we honor her memory by providing vital educational support to students from Myanmar.

Responding to a Crisis in Education

Higher education in Myanmar is currently facing severe, unexpected disruption. These unstable conditions have compelled a massive exodus of young people who are now seeking educational opportunities abroad, with Southeast Asia becoming a primary destination. The escalating internal conflict and recent national service requirements have further compounded this crisis, driving thousands more out of the country in a desperate effort to continue their studies. This substantial outflow represents a major collapse of human capital that casts a bleak shadow over Myanmar’s future prospects.

Our Impact and Future Commitment

Despite the overwhelming need, our foundation is actively working to fill this gap. We made our first award in 2024, granting a $1,200 scholarship to a student at Ton Duc Thang University in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. This single university highlights the need, with over sixty Myanmar students enrolled there alone, and many more studying across the region.

The momentum continued, and by 2025, the Foundation was able to make 30 awards, significantly expanding our support for deserving students.

We are proud to announce our upcoming application cycle. The application forms for the next round of scholarships will open on November 2, 2026. Each $1,200 scholarship is designed to help cover a student’s expenses and directly support their vital academic pursuits, ensuring they can complete their education and one day contribute to a brighter future for Myanmar.
